What is your favorite quote about communication?

A good quote can be a mantra that helps you navigate your life. Here is one of mine:

"The basic building block of good communications is the feeling that every human being is unique and of value."
— Unknown
I LOVE this quote because it the heart of why I write, train, and consult on communication skills. EVERY human being is of value and we need to learn to speak to each other in a way that honors that value. In this blog, I give you skills, tips, and advice on what that looks like. This does not mean we will always agree or get along. How you treat the people you don't know, don't like, and don't agree with says more about your character than anything else.

A good quote can make you bold. It can ignite you. It can inspire you to be...well...BRAVE!
Share your favorite quote and I'll share it too. I am always looking for good quotes for "Thoughtful Thursday" on my Facebook page.

Giveaway starts 12:01am CST on Thursday August 1, 2013 and ends 11:59p CST on August 8, 2013. Winner will be announced 12p on August 9, 2013. Click here for official rules.

  4. Yes it is. I find myself interrupting people because I get excited when I have a thought or question that relates to a topic. I read your blog about interrupting and you couldn't be more right. I have to learn to quit interrupting and listen more. The problem is I forget what I was going to say when I don't interrupt. This is Andrea by the way, I don't have any profiles to log into so this is the only way I could post. Maybe there is a better way?

    1. Andrea, thanks for telling me you were having issues. If you see the name/Url option, it is right before anonymous, you can enter your name there. You can leave the URL blank. That way you can get credit for answering a question. Now that I know it is you I will give you credit for Day 2.

  5. Can't remember the exact quotes: Listen more than you talk. We were born with 2 ears and only one mouth for a reason.

  6. There are four ways, and only four ways, in which we have contact to the world. We are evaluated and classified by these four contacts: what we do, how we look, what we say and how we say it. - Dale Carnegie

    1. I like that! You handle the "how we look". I handle the "what we say and how we say it"!
