  1. Having good communication skills means being able to pinpoint exactly what I want to say and then color it with persuasion, diplomacy, passion--whatever nuance the situation calls for. The thing I try to stress to young people in particular is that having good communication skills can also make you SHINE like the brightest STAR. So few people worry about having really stellar communication skills. They settle for "good enough." But when I look around in business, the people who rise the highest have better-than-average communications skills--or they know they don't have good communication skills and have people they can trust to help them edit their communication in almost every instance.

  2. Lauren, you are spot on! Good communication makes you STAND out in a world where "good enough" is just OK. This is precisely why I call it BRAVE communication because it takes courage and bravery to focus on building and working your communication tools. Everyone wants to be extraordinary, right? With good communication skills you CAN be. You have the power to genuinely influence others...OK I am going to stop because as you can see I can get PASSIONATE! LOL

  3. It means taking what is in my heart and mind and relaying it to someone else in a way that they can understand. Now, whether or not they HEAR what I am communicating is another story!

    1. Melissa, You are so right. We can't control another's reaction or response but we can control how clear, honest, and respectful we are to others.

  4. To me, have good communication skills means you can convey a message clearly and effectively while still being mindful of the audience you are communicating with. The message is not always as important as the impact the message will have.

    1. You are right the impact is what most great speakers go for. Mindful! That is a beautiful word.

  5. It means to me more than anything letting people see the real me. A genuine caring person with a huge heart. That doesn't always happen so I must sharpen my communication skills. Lol
