Do You Check In?

Do you use your phone to check in at restaurants, establishments, events?

Foursquare, Facebook, Twitter, or Yelp all let you check in using your mobile GPS device.

In our digital age, we check in to let people know where we are and what we are doing.

We also check in to invite people to join us right now. Knowing your BFF is right the down street at the cafe makes it more likely that you'll join her in person.

Checking in also is a way of giving a suggestion. By publicizing your check-in you are suggesting others go to the event or business to see if they like it.

Checking in has its benefits for social media and it has it benefits in person to person communication too.

When was the last time you purposely checked-in with your colleagues or family/friends?

When was the last time you made it known that you were available for others to join you?

When was the last time you suggested someone try something for that was for their enjoyment....not yours.

Periodically checking in with the people you work with, or your friends and family helps create a culture of free flowing feedback.

Benefits of checking in with people:

1. Encourages honesty.

Ask someone during peace time what irritates them during war time. You are more likely to get an honest, non defensive answer. Do you want people to be honest with you? If so, let them know it not just by your words, but with your actions.

2. Encourages open communication.

Asking for feedback let's one know you value their feedback. It also encourages one to extend.

3. Builds trust.

By inviting one to be honest and open with you, you are laying the foundation for trust.

So the next time you check in at your favorite restaurant, cafe, or event, set a date to check in with someone special in your life.

Do you use the check in feature on social media often?
